Hello! I am Melissa Gibson and I teach Middle Grades Science. I have been a teacher at GCS since 2006 and continue to love every minute that I spend at this school. I was also a student at GCS a very long time ago, and feel fortunate that I get to teach at the school that I have loved so much! I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and K-6 teacher certification that I earned from the University of North Carolina-Asheville. I also have Middle School math and Science endorsements. In 2015, I received a Master's degree in Instructional Technology from Appalachian State University. I have one daughter, who is presently a Senior at Alleghany High School. It is my pleasure to teach your children and I look forward to working with all of you!

During this unusual school year (2020-2021), it is very important that all middle school students take a large role in their learning at home. It is an expectation that students check their Google classrooms daily and complete all assignments. Recorded meetings will be uploaded as well as classroom presentations for student use. There will be reading assigned through Google classroom and Study Island completion is required. It is important that you read the lessons that accompany each Study Island session. Because of these crazy times, we really all have to work together to make this year successful. I promise to do my part...and I need the same promise from you!
