Mrs. Sherry Maines

Hello! My name is Sherry Maines. I started working at Glade Creek School 17 years ago. I started as an assistant in 2nd grade. As I worked as an assistant, I attending college at night. I graduated from Lees McRae College with a Bachelor’s Degree in K-6 Education in 2011. This is my eighth year teaching.  I have taught Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade. For the last four years I have been teaching art and assisting K-5 teachers as part of their FLEX Groups. So, I teach ELA and Math in small groups.  I attended Glade Creek School as a child K-8. I live five minutes for the school. Glade Creek School is a huge part of my life. I am married to Terry Maines and we have two children. Our daughter Josie is 22 and attends Appalachian State University. She will graduate in December. Our son Jeb is 21. He attends Surry Community College and will transfer to Appalachian State University next fall. Josie and Jeb both attended Glade Creek School (K-8). My hobbies are painting, hiking, riding bikes, doing home improvement projects and most of all “laughing”! It is good for the soul!

I believe it takes two great passions to be an effective teacher, a passion for the subject and a passion for teaching. I also believe it is very important to establish relationships with your students. I have high expectations and my students know that. It is required that they do their very best every day at school. In return, I will give them my very best as well.  My lifelong passion has always been “ART”.  Now that I am Glade Creek School’s art teacher, I receive much enjoyment from inspiring my students to create with their hearts. Glade Creek School is full of young, talented artists!
