What is the Very Special Art's Festival?

The Very Special Art's Festival is now an international event.  Specifically, it is a visual arts, movement arts, musical arts, and theatrical arts festival for all exceptional students providing art experiences above and beyond the traditional classroom experience.  This includes but is not limited to Learning Disabled students, Emotionally Mentally Handicapped students, Visually Impaired students, Hearing Impaired students,  Physically Impaired students, Autistic students, and Downs Syndrome students.  This involves a wide range of students from those who have an unobvious learning disability to those who are severely mentally and/or physically handicapped.  Our art's festival here in Alleghany is unique in that we employ student mentors on a grand scale to teach, assist, be tour guides, and befriend our exceptional students.  Our assistants come from the Alleghany High School's chapter of  The National Art Honor Society, Academically Gifted high school and elementary students, and Learning Disabled or other exceptional  high school students who would rather assist than participate.  Our festival is always based on a theme, usually a cultural theme.
